Overview of Extensions

What is it?

Saurus CMS 4 is developed to be an open framework allowing to extend the core functionality with any kind of new features or entirely custom web applications. Additional functionality should be packaged as an Saurus CMS extension and managed by Extension Manager.
Extensions concept grants developers easy way to install or update the existing extension to the website or to create a completely new one.

When to use it?

We strongly advise to use Extensions every time there is a need for site-specific development, website frontend design, standalone/integrated web application or any other need outside of traditional CMS functionalities. 
For example when creating a new website frontend then it's good practice to keep all templates, graphic and style files in one separate extension. Another example is a more complicated web application containing lots of PHP scripts, separate backend administration and so on.  When packaged as CMS extension it can be effortlessly re-used in another website.

What 's the benefit?

Extensions Manager provides main benefit for the website developer - organizing, quick installing, re-using, versioning and updating separate components of the website saves valuable time and is more efficient for continuesly growing websites.
Quick install (or synchronisation) in the Extension Manager automates several frequently used procedures - creating adminpages and templates in the CMS administration area, importing glossary, running database queries and so on.
Website end-user benefits from larger repository of additional functionalities which are easy to install and can be used immediately.
Extensions may be free of charge or have commercial price depending on creator developer and license conditions.
