Understanding Saurus licensing

About license key

Saurus CMS commercial license grants the holder a right to use the software for one website and installation. The license does not limit time, number of users, content volume or transferred data amounts.

To install any commercial versions of Saurus CMS, you need a license key. The key is not needed to install Saurus CMS Free edition.

License key is a string in format of “XX-XXXX-XXXXX” which is associated with information about the licensee and the product/modules.

License verification

You can enter the key during the installation process or afterwards from Admin > Help > About > License. If you do not provide a license during the installation, Saurus CMS Free modules/functionality will be available until key is inserted and verified.

License verification process connects to Saurus’ license server and downloads an encrypted string which defines the enabled product/modules for the installation. This process assumes that your server is connected to the Internet. The verification is done only once, so you can disconnect your server afterwards.

Site addresses

Since commercial license is per website and installation, the site URL is stored in the database during the verification. You can log in to editor environment only from that URL afterwards. When you move the site to new location, for example from development environment to live address, Saurus has to release the license after which it should be re-verified. Write a short message to saurus@saurus.info to release a license.

The site URL is checked only when you log in as editor or administrator. For public view you can use any URL’s. For example if you verified the license for www.website.com, it can still be seen from website.com, www.website.info or any other address you might have.

Changing the product

Each Saurus installation contains the functionality of full version, so to upgrade from Saurus CMS SE to Saurus CMS for example you just need to re-verify license key after Saurus has modified the license information in it’s server.
